Back to our Roots!!!

Okay, I don't know what got into us this week, but out of nowhere, Mom decided to make Menudo and I finally got the courage to try making homemade flour tortillas. (I had tried it once when we were first married; my tortillas came out looking like the 50 states, not one a complete circle!) Many times since I have helped Gma Flores make hers in CC but never attempted to do it on my own....Chris has been bugging me for years. Anyways, we were having a guest over and Chris wanted to eat Enchiladas, rice and beans. So I figured this would be a perfect time. I didn't even mention it to Chris in case I messed up. I would simply trash them and he would never know...but they actually came out pretty good. No, nowhere near grandmas and a bit hard after the first warm up, but the masa tasted yummy. He freaked out when he got home. Not only was there the menu, but tortillas and menudo to go with it. He said he would have guests over more often if this was to come out of it....don't press your luck babe!!! lol
but I am definitely more confident and I know what I need to do to soften up the masa...can't wait til next time...hopefully it will be sooner than later!

there's the masa and my little circles, ready to be pressed!

who would have ever thought that picture would be taken in my kitchen!
Grandma would be so proud!!!

and there's mr. Jalepeno, my tortilla holder. I ended up making 30+ tortillas...CRAZY!!

and MiaLuz was the tester...she loved them! but then again, what doesn't she love!?!

Congrats! Hope to be able to taste them sometime. I tried and gave up after the 50 states were all represented. Maybe I will try makeing tamales. That is what I am in the mood this year to try.
