MiaLuz

We were invited to Columbia College this week to a class that was studying Parenting/Parenting Skills. The professor (who is also a member in our Ward) said she wanted them to meet 3 different children that ranged from infant to toddler. And since I had all 3, I was the perfect candidate! She warned me that it was at 2:00, normally nap time for most kids this age, but I wasn't worried since MiaLuz never takes nap anymore and is fine without one.
For 2 days prior to this occasion, MiaLuz had been fighting high fevers. She would wake up in the middle of the night burning up and all day Tuesday she layed in bed and slept. But she hadn't had one for at least 12 hours so I thought whatever her body was trying to fight had taken it's course and was long gone..... I was wrong.
So we get ready to leave the house. Chris is looking handsome in his vest and polo shirt, Adan is suited up as well. Then it was time to get MiaLuz ready. Not as easy. For the first time in a long time, she argued with what I had picked out for her. She insisted that she wear her new ballerina dress she got for Christmas, even picked out her tights and "shiny shoes" to match. I was ready to argue back when I decided that this was just the type of thing the students needed to see. (Pick your battles! ) So she literally cheered the entire time she was putting it on telling me how she was so excited to show everyone her dress!
So off we go...not even 5 minutes into the ride she tells me her eyes were tired and she was going to rest them...I did everything I could to keep her awake. We finally got there and set up shop. We had tons of toys out for the kiddos and had the desks in a circle so everyone could see them in action. Chris was a perfect gentleman and Adan couldn't have been cuter. He crawled to everyone and had them laughing and sighing "AWE!"
MiaLuz was another story. She was not having it. She had received the "you better be nice or else" speech from me, but it lasted for only 10 minutes. She wanted to sit in my lap and whined until she got her way. Then, just as I thought we were over the hump, she asked for her granola bar....The one thing I forgot, of course...that was it! She cried and kept yelling out how I was suppose to bring it. I finally excused myself to the hallway to put her back in line. She sat on my lap and fell asleep within 5 minutes. I thought we were clear after that. Then I realized she was burning up! OH NO! So we were 5 minutes from wrapping it up and she woke up and had a melt down. The poor thing was so hot and I had nothing to give her. Needless to say, we left immediately.
So it was quite the experience, I must say. But the students were great; had great questions and although poor MiaLuz was not herself, I think it was a great lessons to them. You just always have to EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED! Whether we will be back next semester remains to be seen! lol
