This past Saturday, about 10 pm, Chris gets a call that the Stake President wants to meet with Chris and myself before church. We were up the next hour trying to figure out who was going to get called. Would it be me- music? I cringed at the thought of a Stake calling, gets me so anxious. But I quickly realized it would be Chris. For over a year now the Bishop has been "training" Chris. As his Executive Secretary, he learned the "in's and out's" of the bishopric and is always telling him that he knows that he will be a Bishop someday so he needed to learn the ropes. Still, we never even gave that a thought. We have such wonderful counselors, we just assumed it would be something in the Stake level, Clerk maybe? Chris spent a good time looking through the "openings" at the Stake level. If was so funny to see his anxiousness...
When the Stake President offered the calling I looked straight at Chris' face. His eyes were HUGE. He couldn't believe it. "WOW! ME!?!" The Stake President said it was a sure thing and continued with his counsel to us. It's amazing how someone that has never met you or your family (we received a new Stake presidency last week!) is given revelation to say just what you need to hear as a couple and family. It was a wonderful time and I of course couldn't stop crying.
I am so proud of my husband. Being a convert of only 10 years, he has grown so much in the gospel. We knew from the minute we moved into this ward that something was special about this place and these people and we knew early on that this time in our lives would be a time we would always remember. Bishop Strickland is one of Chris' best friends and we are so grateful to him and all his counsel he gives to him and our family. He has truly been an inspiration to Chris.
We are super excited for this new journey. We know all it entales; the meetings, late night duties and calls, (hmmm, sounds like his job! ) lol
and the "sacrament widow" that I have become. But we are ready to tackle it full heartily.

Chris will be so awesome in the bishopric! Jer really looks up to Chris and so do I! Remember when you guys picked me up from the airport in Austin?! You were SO good to me and were the first out of state Tijerinas I met! Chris told me a little bit about his conversion on the drive to Corpus and I was really impressed with him. Good luck with the kids in Sacrament Meeting!!
Congratulations on your hubby's new calling! Find a family you like with older girls to help you out with the kids during sacrament. I VT the bishops wife so we usually sit by her to help her out with 3 little ones. My girls help as well.
I know your family will be so blessed for all the efforts and service that Chris will do and you for supporting his call!
