Chris' first soccer game!

If you have ever seen a soccer game with 3-5 yr olds then you know that it isn't really a game. It's a bunch of kids just running back and forth. No rules, no limits, just running with an occasional kick to the soccer ball. I call it organized chaos! I honestly think they spend more time out of bounds and running into the middle of nowhere than they do on the actual field! It's sooo funny to watch! Kids running aimlessly and parents yelling to their children trying to keep them on track...yeah, organized chaos is exactly what it is!
So the day after their first practice Chris had his first game. Not exactly good planning since they still had no clue what the heck they were doing, but what the heck. In this league they put the 3-5 year old kids together so of course Chris is one of the smallest kids out there. But that sure didn't stop him. He was the only 3 year old that jumped in there with the big kids and tried to scramble the ball out towards the goal. He was also the only kid to fall on just about every run. Poor thing, he was trying to run faster than his little legs could take him. The 5 yr old kids were the only ones that had a chance to actually make a goal, but Chris blocked alot for the team. He's a trooper. I'm still trying to get him to understand the game, that it's a team effort, blocking, running, and kicking for the goal. It's alot for a 3 yr old to take in. But he's having a blast playing and that's all that matters.
okay, so not the cutest face but i just had to take a picture for my records!

here they are stretching for the game...how cute is that!?!

pick me...pick me!

And the game begins...
He's about the only one that will run after the big kids, but of course he doesn't catch them.

And the other team makes the final goal!

Good game!

Chris was really upset because he didn't actually make a goal. He kept saying that he didn't "won" (he meant win of course)....I kept trying to explain to him that he helped his team make the goal by blocking for them, but I guess it's still too early for him to understand that. Below is a video clip of some of the runs he made. You will see his "soccer dance" as well as the blocks he made against the other team. I was very proud of him and I'm sure this is just the beginning of the soccer blogs!!!

tell your coach that the stretch that he has them doing is really not good for them. they should be doing it with the leg bent in front of them. ;-)
